Heartless, Cruel, Insensitive

GMA is heartless, cruel and insensitive. In continuing with her US trip, it shows that GMA gives more importance to meeting Bush and likewise conitnuing her junket tour with her minions rather than attend to the grieving families of those killed in the sinking of Princess of the Stars and other victims of typhoon “Frank”. She chose to bask in royalty during this particular trip in the United States and enjoys it so much while the whole nation weeps and grieves. To borrow the words of Sen. Ernie Maceda, “Truly GMA and her cohorts, the Cabinet, the 56 Congressmen and everyone in the junket are modern day Neros.”

My heart bleeds to those who have perished during the typhoon and all those killed in the sinking of the Princess of the Stars. I join our grieving nation in praying for their souls.

The Quest for Truth

Jun Lozada should continue his crusade and quest for truth. Jun, don’t be discouraged by your detractors’ , Malacanang’s lapdogs’ criticisms. As long as you know that what you are fighting for is right, then you should carry on!

The youth should continue supporting the crusade of Jun Lozada specially that classes are about to start. GMA and her minions have been very relaxed during summer break. It’s time for the youth to take the lead once more in the quest for good and honest governance. Let us not remain apathetic.

running in 2010

spliceanddice,

Most likely I will not be running for the Senate in 2010 since my brother is up for re-election. It will be hard since the machinery, the resources would be split in case we both run at the same time.

My best chance was last 2007, had I went through my candidacy, modesty aside I would have made it in the magic 12 as surveys have shown. With the opposition bandwagon, I would have been a Senator by now.

But I had to give way so that the opposition may be united. It was a big sacrifice and I must admit, it was a hard one too. But I always look at the bigger picture, I think my sacrifice would benefit the opposition, which would stand as a safeguard against the inept and scandal-ridden Arroyo regime.

If I was able to make the sacrifice of being a Senator last election, that goes to show that my personal interest is only secondary to the interest of our country.

I would always keep the fire and idealism of the youth burning, whether I am in the Senate or not.

May pag-asa,

JV Ejercito

Are the Young Turks Running in 2010?

Are the young turks running for the Senate or for some other public office in 2010? I cannot answer for the others but allow me to answer spliceanddice’s question directly and honestly, although I’m not sure that my answer will satisfy. Spliceanddice wrote today that -

“Some of the guys in “The Young Turks”, if not all, are eyeing high positions in the 2010 elections. One quick and frank question (which, eventually, all these things here boil down to) so that we can set the record straight here:

Are you guys (Mayor JV, Prof. Danton Remoto, Congressman TG Guingona, Gilbert Remulla, and Atty. Adel Tamano) running for the Senatorial positions in 2010?

That would be a fine question to begin with. On my part, I’ll keep the comments and criticisms–both positive and negative—coming once my question, as part of the youth you guys are addressing here, is answered. Thanks!”

Simply, my answer is I don’t know. Do I want to run for the Senate? Well, yes, because, among other things, Filipino Muslims have not had a representative in the upper house for over a decade. But I don’t want to run and lose because losing will not be just a personal tragedy but it will ultimately undermine, if not destroy, the chances of future Filipino Muslims of being elected. So the decision to run, which is distinct from the desire to represent Filipino Muslims, will be based on a lot of things and is, by no means, a simple matter.

However, I don’t think that this blog should be viewed from the lens of political opportunism alone. That would be unfair. Read the entries here, not just from the young turks but from the comments, and you will find that there is a wellspring of idealism and nationalism that is being tapped into by this web log. On my part, this blog is a means of engaging that wellspring, particularly because being a political spokesman can, if you let yourself get lazy and uncritical, become demoralizing and it can make you cynical. I don’t want cynicism to become a part of me and this initiative - corny as it may sound - is helping me by meeting, even if only on a virtual plane as of yet, Filipinos who are not apathetic and who have hope for our country’s future.

Serving the Youth

It has been always been an honor for me to serve the youth and being a youth leader in the past, as past National President of the Junior Chamber of the Philippines or JCI-Philippines (formerly Philippine Jaycees), and as National Chairman of Kabataan ng Masang Pilipino, and other youth organizations, it has been a commitment for me to hold on with the passion to assist our youth, kahit pumuti na ang buhok ko. Although I belong to a political family, I have never let politics get in the way of my passion of serving the youth sector.

It will be a big challenge on how to convince the majority of our youth to be dedicated and take part on what is happening to our country. Based on my experience, as I have gone around the country, the youth will move as long as there would be programs and projects that would interest them. But unfortunately because of lack of effective youth programs, the majority of our youth remained apathetic.

This generation is hounded with political and economic crises, the youth should not lose hope to act and affect change for the nation. Even during the last issues concerning scandals in the current administration, the youth was at the forefront in the quest for truth. That was when I told myself, there is still hope, since the youth was now at the frontline of the communal action. It was a great feeling that the political, business, and religious personalities had to take a back seat and let the youth take the lead in the activities.

Gone are the days when the youth are just enthralled with gimmicks, night outs, malling, and even vices. Ang it is also a good thing that we are blessed with the new technology that we can utilize for disseminating information, expressing our views and participating in the endeavors for the betterment of our nation.

The Filipino Youth have long been recognized as achievers, intelligent, talented and success-driven.

JV EJERCITO
